#12 - What's Worth the Effort to You?

"This is not to say that we put more effort in as our audience gets bigger, it must be more nuanced than this."

Before jumping headfirst into executing a marketing strategy of any kind, it pays to work out what the effort is worth to you.

Let's say you want to promote the launch of a new song, any number of marketing activities could be undertaken here.

Each time we add in an activity, we consume resources. So what matters is not "getting it all right" but working out what's worth the effort.

Let's say you wanted to publish a series of emails to your subscribers. The payoff will be dictated by the size of your list, how engaged they are and what you're trying to achieve. Smaller list, be careful of overcommitting to a launch campaign. Larger list, make sure the effort goes into nurturing your contacts.

This is not to say that we put more effort in as our audience gets bigger, it must be more nuanced than this.

But "worth the effort" means it'll be valuable to the audience and feel like a return on your own investment (remember you're investing a combination of time, energy and money here and using all of these should be seen as a transaction).

This is about timing, this is about finding what works for you, what's sustainable and most importantly growing steadily.

If there's a good chance it won't be worth repeating, maybe best to hold off until it's worth the effort.
