A Decade Ago Today

"A decade on I is grateful for taking the leap, for backing myself, for navigating what has got to be one of the most challenging career pathways on the planet."

Ten years ago today I decided I could earn some money on my own.

I decided that putting my ideas, skills, vibe, support and more into the world would be my ticket to freedom.

I decided it would be viable because of the passion it sparked.

I decided it would be multi-faceted, progressive and evolve as I grew.

A decade ago to this day I was 24 years old, a recent undergraduate passionate about music and the creative sector. I was skilled in communication, creative thinking and strategy; I channelled these skills through the category of marketing.

A decade ago today I registered my ABN, with little clarity about what was ahead, but optimism, grit and curiosity leading the charge.

A decade on I is grateful for taking the leap, for backing myself, for navigating what has got to be one of the most challenging career pathways on the planet.

Backing yourself to build a creative business is tough. But a decade on, with experiences I could never have imagined, and looking into the future knowing the next decade will be just as exploratory as the last, I am reminded that curiosity and passion can take us a long way.

It certainly pays to have plans, boundaries and rigour too, but they develop with time.

The journey is the point. Stay in it, lean forward, build things.

Think. Make. Launch. Repeat.
